We Must Conserve Energy
By Lucas A.H.
Do you ever leave the light on and walk out of the room? Do you ever spend hours on a tablet or other device during your free time? Well if you have, then you have wasted energy. It’s not a big deal--it’s a HUGE deal because it wastes money, it’s bad for the environment, and there are better things to do with your time when you are not using extra electricity. We must learn to live in ways that conserve energy.
The electricity wasted, wastes money that could be used on better things, like class field trips! In fact, 24 out of 25 people in my class wanted more class field trips. One way to do this would be to conserve energy to save money. But if you are going to be out of the room for less than 15 minutes, then you should leave the light on because the energy used to power the light bulb backup is more than you would have
wasted if you had just left the light on! WE MUST CONSERVE ENERGY!!!
Another reason why we need to conserve energy is because wasting energy is bad for the environment. There is this thing called the ozone layer. It is basically protecting us from a harmful light, called ultraviolet light, or UV for short. But when you waste energy, you are helping along a bad thing called the greenhouse effect. It is caused by fossil fuels, and most of the electricity that we waste is created by using fossil fuels. The greenhouse effect heats up the world and melts glaciers, ruining animals’ homes, ruining the clean water supply, and because the glacier is melting the oceans are rising completely flooding peoples homes. WE MUST CONSERVE ENERGY!!!
The third and final reason that we must conserve energy is that there are better things to do when not wasting electricity. Have you ever wondered how people lived before electronic devices were available? They read a book, they played a game, they went outside, or they just had a conversation. Try living like this! If you are a parent, don’t let your kid pick up a device. And if you are a kid, pick up a book.
I hope that you have realized that wasting energy not only affects on you, but also on how this could affect your grandchildren! So please, do not waste energy. Instead Conserve energy. You are paying the bill to the electricity company to light the room--when you are not there! That is what happens if you leave a light on when you leave the room. If you conserve energy then you can save money, save the environment, and not waste your time on devices. WE MUST CONSERVE ENERGY!!!

- Do some brain teasers ,it's hard and super fun for example: Riddles.
The Brain of an Elephant
By Deblina C.
The elephant has the largest brain of all land animals, but does that mean that it is the smartest?
Elephants are extremely smart. They can be trained to perform tricks. An elephant named Kandula once used a cube as a step stool to reach some high leaves. Elephants have a wide range of emotions, they even mourn for the death of a family member or friend. Elephants also have an amazing memory, they can make mental maps and can remember the exact location of water and feeding holes. Other animals that mourn are chimpanzees and magpies. Elephants, like humans aren’t born with survival instincts which means that they aren’t born knowing how to survive in the world they have to learn them like us. Elephants have approximately ten years to learn how to survive until they are considered independent adults.
Does a big brain mean you are smarter? Scientists have been debating the definition of intelligence and how to measure it. Scientists do agree on one thing though: A big brain doesn’t associate with smarts. They think that it has more to do with brain mass relative to body mass, but the relationship isn’t proportional. Elephants’ brains weigh just over 11 lb and the average weight of an adult human brain is 3.3 lb. If having a big brain means you are smarter than sperm whales would get better grades than you. A sperm whale's brain weighs 5 times more than humans.
Elephants aren’t smarter than us but they are very smart creatures, and they can do amazing things. They might even be smarter than we thought.

Behave on the bus!
By Arturo B.
Do you scream all the time on the bus? Do you feel like that you have to cover your ears on the bus? Well, I don’t scream, but I still have to cover my ears on the bus every day. If you do sceam on the bus, you should not. You should behave because the busdriver won’t get distracted, the busdriver won’t get angry, and people will have an enjoying bus ride.
You should behave on the bus because the busdriver will get distracted if you don’t behave. If you distract the bus driver with the screaming and yelling, the bus driver will go the wrong way, making everyone lost somewhere. Did you know that 16% of bus accidents happen because of misbehaving children? And that to pay for more buses, schools lose more than $7,000,000, and this is all because of the misbehaving children. That is why it distracts the bus driver.
You should behave on the bus because the bus driver will get angry if you don’t behave. And when he does get angry, he tells everyone, even the behaving kids, to not talk or only whisper on the bus. That is why the bus driver would get mad.
You should behave on the bus because children won’t have a nice time on the bus if you don’t behave. Please do not be selfish! If you do, you will have less friends. If you are unselfish, you will have a lot of friends. Not behaving is bad! That is why children would have a better bus ride.
In conclusion, you should behave on the bus. You should behave because the bus driver won’t get distracted, the bus driver won’t get angry, and people will have an enjoying bus ride. If you do stop, everyone will be able to talk to their friends. Remember: the school will have more money, so they can do more assemblies, and if you do this, everyone will be happy!

The “Buddies” Program
By Anjali H.
Hello fellow students of MRS! As all of you know, our school’s most important and emphasized value is FRIENDSHIP. In fact, our school mascot is even named F.R.E.D! That stands for “Friends Recognize Everyone’s Differences”. But unfortunately, some in our school find it hard to make friends.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a social disability that makes it difficult for those affected to communicate. Some individuals can talk, while others are nonverbal. There are some students in our own school who are on the spectrum and have a hard time interacting with other students. So if you want to be a friend to these kids, consider joining the Buddies program! Although it’s only for 5th graders, if you’re in 4th or 3rd grade keep reading to see whether Buddies is something you’re interested in.
I’ve actually participated in the program and in my humble opinion, it’s a very charming and heartwarming experience. You are partners with an autistic child and you get to play games with him/her. You can create and maintain a strong bond, play outside, and learn from your buddy! Something I learned is that these children are incredibly bright. My buddy was a great writer and an admirable artist.
Mrs. Delre started Buddies to spread awareness about autism. She wanted all of us to recognize our friends on the spectrum as part of a team. I mean, you’d probably want to feel like you’re important or that you’re a part of the population. That’s why it’s important we all join hands with them and give them the opportunity to utilize their voice. You probably wouldn’t have started speaking if your parents didn’t speak to you or around you.
So everyone please, let your true, kind, beautiful self break through and be a friend to the friendless, a voice for the voiceless, and a hope for the hopeless. Join the Buddies program, I assure you it’ll be an experience you won’t regret!

4 Things To Consider Before Deciding Between A Packed Or School Lunch
By Aleesha I.
1. Cost
If you're wondering about the cost for our lunches, it’s $2.45. But if your child is asking for things like individually wrapped cookies or chips, then school lunches would be a more appropriate suggestion. You may even be able to apply for free lunches
2. Is your child a picky eater?
You may want to consider that, as all schools in America have set standards to the five major food groups. If you do have one, you should also think if you should trust him or her with school lunches. Many schools in America have reported students skipping lunch, or simply throwing them in the trash. Also keep in mind the daily menu and portion size if they’re a vegetarian, vegan or allergic to anything.
3. Is it convenient for you?
Do you have more than one child and less time to pack? Does it take time to provide a healthy lunch for your child? If you have answered ‘yes’ to at least two of these questions, then you should try the school lunches. You should keep in mind the fact that your child may have friends that eat more snacks than fruits and vegetables.
4. Letting your child pack
Sometimes giving your child the reins, along with the necessary requirements, can lead to better life for you and your child. They will love declaring that they made their meal, single-handedly.
I hope you will take careful thought with them.

Don’t Litter!
By Arturo B.
Why do I sometimes see a plastic water bottle on the floor at a park? Why do I see crumpled paper with lots of free space that you can write in? Would you like it if someone poured a trash bucket on you? Treat others just like you want to be treated. That includes the Earth. That’s why we should not litter. Everyone shouldn’t litter because it would make the world more beautiful, the world would have more trees, and people would have better experiences.
Everyone should not litter because the world would have more trees. What I mean about this is that people, including you, should reuse the paper. I remember there was a tree once, a big, nice one near my house. But after about a year since I saw it, it was cut down. I was pretty sure that it was cut down for paper because I usually see lots of barely used paper in a recycling can.
Everyone should not litter because it would make the world more green. What I mean by that is that it would make the world more healthy. I remember one time that when I was walking with my father, I saw the grass, which was beautiful. But then, another time, I was walking with my family, (my mother, father, brother, sister, and I), next to the ocean, it was nice looking, but then we saw a water bottle on the ground. That thing made it less green because then birds or fish could try to eat the plastic and get sick or get stuck inside of it.
Everyone should not litter because people would have better experiences. I remember one time when I was at the beach with my dad, it looked so beautiful with the sand and the shells and the water. But then I noticed two water bottles on the ground. So, we picked them up and put them into the nearest recycling can. Then I had about a minute to just enjoy looking at the waves and feel the nice wind with my dad.
That is why we should not litter. You shouldn’t litter because the world would have more trees, it would make the world more green, and people would have better experiences.

Growth Mindset
By Silvano M.
I think growth mindset is important to kids and adults. Everyone should have this. Learning about growth mindset is nessasery to most human beings of Earth. My teacher Ms.Conlon taught us about it.
Growth mindset helps us get through the 21st century. Sometimes we might use growth mindset on a hard test like a math test or a spelling bee. Another way growth mindsets could help us is by mental challenges such as brain puzzles and writing. It is nice to have a growth mindset because it is healthy. A growth mindset means to think about overcoming an issue.
